  Preserve Your Freedom

Social Justice Posted by Will Bridewell on Sunday September 16, @05:43PM
from the give-me-liberty-or-give-me-daath dept.

Thelemites must act to preserve the rights of all Americans. If you missed this Slashdot article, read it, then go write, call, or fax your representatives. Let them know that Freedom must be preserved before they begin to take it away.

The computer-savvy should rally around saving our ability to legally encrypt e-mail and other documents without back-door access. This will likely be a major issue when Congress reconvenes. Take note of the points made in the article as well as how they were made.

Below is a copy of the initial e-mail that I sent to my representatives in Kentucky. It is a general call to protect our freedoms. Over the next few days I plan to supplement it with letters demanding the preservation of specific rights that appear to be under attack. I again encourage you to do the same.

As a resident of Kentucky and a citizen of The United States of America, I was aggrieved by the events that took place on the 11th of September. Although the acts of these terrorists have caused many Americans to fear for the loss of their lives, I find myself fearing what I feel to be a far greater threat: the loss of our liberties.
I understand that we need to take every step possible to keep America free from the threat of terrorists and saboteurs, but we should always keep in mind that Freedom makes America great. When we remember this, we also have to remember that Freedom comes with a price. That price may be as steep as our lives or the lives of those we love.
America was born in the blood of those who believed that Freedom was an ideal worth dying for. If we are to surrender our freedom in the face of fear, then we dishonor those that fought and died during our Revolution, and we dishonor those that have fought and died to preserve our freedom ever since.
Although terrorists may engender fear that burrows deep into our very bones, I call upon you as a representative of we good people to stand tall and preserve those values on which America was founded.

My question is for the poster of this article. There is an incongruety between the sentiments expressed, and who you are presenting yourself as. Why do you infer that you are a resident of Kentucky when the e-mail address you gave is for a Canadian University, specifically the University of Lethbridge? Before I condemn you as a deceitful individual and call into question everything you submitted for perusal on this forum, I invite you to proffer an explanation. Or perhaps you'll stand up, and come over and talk to me yourself. See you soon.

That's kind of intense, isn't it? What kind of dire motives would you suspect of a Canadian posing as someone from Kentucky? And what bearing does it have on the substance of the article either way?\\

My concern wasn't the poster's nationality in the least. My concern was whether it was an individual at the school I attend, namely the University of Lethbridge.\\

You know, THA;M, a US citizen can easily go to any College/University in the world, and simultaneously maintain their status as a U.S. citizen AND their State residency! Amazing, isn't it!\\

Yeah, and sometimes they are as pretentious as yourself. Too bad we couldn't screen them more carefully.\\

Although I'm not sure what any of this has to do with fighting for our Freedom, I don't see any reason not to reply.\\

The e-mail address listed is from yahoo.com. How is that associated with any particular university? If it really matters to anyone, I attend college in Pennsylvania and maintain my permanent residence in Kentucky.\\

Smart cards to hold your personal identifying marks…amongst other things.

Read about it at MSNBC and fight it tooth and nail.

93,
Religions are rallied in a frenzie rarely seen these days. Persecution is at the heals of all non popular religions and Atheists.
As far as the petty squable, who cares.
As Far as our civil liberties, we should all care but act with a clear head.

May Satan Bless us all
