  Gist For Jazzcat Junkies

Art Posted by <Mordecai> on Saturday October 20, @03:50PM
from the beat-goes-on dept.

For Beast Bay readers who miss the music of the jazzcat's poetry you can find a selection of his poems (edited for spelling, amazingly enough) here on the BestOfSanFranciscoGuide's poetry pages.

Interesting, though anachronistic and not very contemporary. Certainly a lot more lucid and comprehensible than I would have thought before reading.

Yah, he's very true to the beat trad though. Here on the Beast Bay he was working without a net, so to speak, he wasn't editing it down and focusing it. Ginsberg talked a lot about “First thought, best thought”, but he didn't mean “First thought, and stop thinking”. Allen didn't rework or change his poems, but he did edit them mercilessly, paring them down as best he could to the essentials. It's good to see that Craig follows that example with his poems for publication (if not with his electronic bulletin boarding). I wonder if he'd consider me arrogant for thus complimenting him?\\

I enjoyed a good portion of his poetry, it sometimes illustrated an acerbic but witty humor, and was filled with obscure literary allusions that quite amused me. Jazzcat has a (my body is reacting against my saying this) pronounced intellect. Too bad he was too antagonistic to let me compliment him. Anyway, I hope he didn't leave so angry he doesn't return. He certainly spices things up.\\

He definitely has his fans. One of them even pieced together a disjointed, rambling sort of homage to him that the BB admin group had to hash over.\\

Speaking of editing, shouldn't it be “grist” for jazzcat junkies?
