  Erik Davis on Lovecraft

Weirdness Posted by <AShub> on Friday October 26, @01:03AM
from the movies-that-man-was-not-meant-to-know dept.

Come hear Erik Davis, cultural critic and author of TechGnosis, explore the terrifying and bizarre legacy of pulp horror genius H.P.Lovecraft. Hear how Lovecraft combined his depressing materialist philosophy with a dreamlife full of monsters and necromantic books into a lasting mythos that now lurks on the chaotic borders betweenreality and imagination, magic and media. We will pay particular attention to films that have attempted to capture something of Lovecraft's unique brand of cosmic horror.

Eldritch slide shows, rare film clips, special guests, and nameless, possibly disquieting, surprises guaranteed.

Saturday, October 27. 8:30pm. $5
Other Cinema @ ATA

Good to see that ATA is still at it. I remember several “OTO at ATA” events from the '80's, including a Gnostic Mass, an Enochian Invocation, and Frater Spartacus unofficially defecating on a picture of the Pope (the poop?).
