Did You Hear The One About The Magus' Daughter?

Weirdness Posted by Aiwaz Thelema on Tuesday January 01, @05:54PM
from the it-was-a-blasphemy-was-it-a-blasph-for-you? dept.

The best satirical Christian web sites have mostly originated with nonbelievers or ex-believers. In Thelema it's different. Most of our humour sites seem to originate with Thelemites themselves, as a glance at the Open Directory's category Society: Religion and Spirituality: Esoteric and Occult: Thelema: Humor will show. However, the Directory only lists five sites. Surely there are many more than this. I would ask that anyone who knows of some other humourous Thelemic web sites please post the relevant URL(s) for us.

I had seen all of these sites before, except for the “One True Official Thelemic Organization” – hilarious! Thank you for bringing it to our attention. The site I would add is OYEZ, a humor journal of HeruRaHa Lodge of O.T.O.

One True Official Thelemic Organization is indeed great – thanks for the pointer. Where else can one find adroit parodies of P. R. Koenig, G. M. Kelly, Bill Heidrick, Phyllis Seckler, Hymenaeus Beta, and Grady McMurtry? I assume that some of the material on space aliens is meant to rib Allen Greenfield as well, though Kenneth Grant seems almost equally probable.\\

Any guesses as to who is being roasted in the other pieces at the site, or who the author might be? I was struck by the mention of Fr. Odd Veritably, given that the referent appears to be a rather little-known figure.\\

I can't help with the identity of Frater O.V. (though the initials are strangely familiar), but I'm pretty sure that David Bersson is the subject of one or more parodies.\\

The problem is that most don't intend to be funny

I don't know whether to be amused or appalled that I managed to get 7 out of 7 for the Mr. Crowley site…\\

Just about anything on the web associated with David Berssson (or his alter ego, Clifff Steven Maverick) is hilarious. A wonderful comedian…

Thelemites may appreciate the stand-up comedy of Bill Hicks. While his material is not outright Thelemic, there is a great deal of the Thelemic viewpoint expressed in his comedy, particularly with reference to religion, politics, sex, and drugs. He once referred to himself as “Noam Chomsky with dick jokes”. Hicks died in 1994, but he still has a loyal following to this day.

Interested? This site will get you started; there is much more to be found via file-sharing software (i.e. WinMX, Morpheus etc.) for those who hunger for more.

As the creator of “Breakfast without Tears”, I've often wondered myself why there simply weren't more people out there having a good joke at the expense of Uncle Al and his snicker-worthy systems. As much as I love him, there's enough bad writing, poetry, and fake medievalism to launch a thousand sites.

The only answer I've been able to figure out is that simply most Thelemites don't know the system well enough to feel comfortable making fun of it, for some godawful reason.

I always thought this one was the funniest:

Perhaps it's one of those “It's funny because it's true” kinda things…

How about some Thelemite lightbulb jokes?

Q: How many Thelemites does it take to screw in a light bulb?\\
    \\
    A: Damned big light bulb. . .\\
    \\
    \\
Q: How many SOTO members does it take to screw in a light bulb?\\
    \\
A: You see, I asked you that question to put you to a simple test, and you failed.\\
