  Spiritualizing Environmentalism

Social Justice Posted by <Xnoubis> on Saturday April 22, @11:33PM
from the let's-just-call-it-sacred dept.

Edward O. Wilson (who stirred up a great deal of controversy with his 1998 book, Consilience, regarding the unification of all branches of knowledge) is the subject of an excellent interview in Salon. Wilson, myrmecologist (ant scientist) and sociobiologist, sees a necessity for spirituality to become the driving force of environmentalism. Interestingly, though, he comes to this from a purely secular humanist point of view. Still, this could be viewed as a step toward the respectability of earth-centered pagan worldviews within the scientific world.
