The Fiery Men of Uckerrath

From Uckerath into the direction of Bennerscheid and Altenbach there is a spirit forest (beech forest) which was once haunted by small fiery men at night. They came out of a hole in the ground, usually shortly after dusk and most frequently during the fall. But when humans came close to them, they fled away in haste.

Once a little fiery man ran after a man who had made fun of him. The little man was as large as a child, had very large eyes and buttons the size of a tin plate on his waistcoat. But the man managed to escape.
