Eleusis

Although in both electronic and print versions the first word is given as “Utium”, the quote from Tomás Sánchez, De Matrimonio, Lib. ii. Cap. xxi., should be “Utrum Virgo Maria semen emiserit in copulatione cum Spiritu Sancto”(Voltaire, (1789). Romans et Contes de Voltaire, Volume 4, p 211 see) (Howells, R.J. (1993). Disabled Powers, p 166 see) which might be translated as “Did the Virgin Mary emit fluid during copulation with the Holy Spirit?” This is part of a theological debate about the immaculate conception, which seems to continue an older theory from Hippocrates who wrote that the sexual emissions of male and female combined to conceive a child.
